Born in Hamilton, Ontario, in 1963, and raised in the Toronto area, Kallis graduated from the Art and Art History Program at the University of Toronto and Sheridan College, raised two sons, then moved to Hamilton in 2008. Kallis has a growing list of both solo and group exhibitions, as well as a number of published written works. As a visual artist, Kallis works primarily in paint. A longterm theme of her work has been the precarious coexistence of displaced humans and nature, and the straining environment they share. To support her compulsion to make art, Kallis works as an art instructor, writer, editor, website developer, landscape designer, renovator and managing director of a nonprofit literary organization in the Greater Toronto Area.
